About the club

American Football is inclusive to all genders and levels of experience, and we welcome enquiries from those with a disability regarding the accessibility of American Football. The club competes throughout the year against other universities in the BUCS league and has two yearly major events, the Cavaliers Cup against Oxford Brookes University, and the Varsity Bowl against Cambridge. There is also an inter-college Flag Football tournament after the season in Trinity term.

The American Football club began in Oxford in 1991 but was a mixed-team with Oxford Brookes from 1995-2009. Following a rule change in 2010 that disallowed combined Uni teams, Oxford University re-founded the team as the Lancers. Now a Half-Blue sport, the Lancers have become a competitive and exciting team at the University.

We are welcoming new players who want to help us continue to build on our momentum and are interested to try out the unique combination of speed, strength, and intelligence that characterizes American Football. No previous experience necessary - our qualified coaching staff prides itself on developing athletes both on and off the field. We welcome everyone who is dedicated to work hard and willing to become part of our community.

There are two kitted sessions per week (helmets and pads provided by the club), one on the weekend and one mid-week. Our 8 regular season games are played across Michaelmas and Hilary terms, and the Varsity Bowl is played in Trinity.

If you have any questions or queries about the team, do not hesitate to get in contact with the club via the contact details below.
