Oxford University Blues Committee
Terms of use
These terms cover your use of this website. By using it you accept them. They sit alongside our privacy notice, which explains what we do with personal data.
Who we are
The Blues Committee is the governing body responsible for awarding Blues and Half Blues to Oxford University students who represent the University at sport. We oversee around sixty sports clubs, set and review the criteria each award is made against, and decide individual nominations by motion at Committee meetings.
The Committee is an unincorporated association, constituted under its own written constitution, last revised on 15 October 2023, and everything on this page should be read subject to it. It is made up of the captains or presidents of every Full Blue, Discretionary Full Blue and Half Blue club, together with an Executive — a President, a Secretary and a Treasurer, elected annually and required to be matriculated students — and a Senior Member drawn from Congregation. It is independent of the Oxford University Sports Federation, whose representatives attend meetings as observers and advisers without a vote, and which retains a degree of oversight of the Committee's activities.
Where these terms say we or us, they mean the Blues Committee. Questions about the interpretation of the constitution are settled by the Executive.
What this site is for
This site explains the Blues scheme, lists the clubs within it, and publishes the criteria each club's awards are made against. It is information about how the scheme works — nothing on it is an award, a decision, or advice.
The criteria published here
The criteria on each club's page come directly from the Committee's own records. They are the criteria in force, not a summary or a copy kept separately — they are published from the same system the Committee uses to maintain them, and only once the Executive has deliberately released them.
Each page shows the version in force now — which is not always the most recently agreed one. Criteria change only by motion at a Committee meeting, and a change takes effect from the following term. So a change agreed this term will not appear here until the term it applies from, and that is deliberate: what you see is the wording that governs awards today.
For the same reason this is not an archive. A criterion that has been superseded is no longer shown, and an award decided in an earlier year may have been made against different wording. If you need the version in force at a particular date, ask us and we will tell you.
Blues and Half Blues are awarded by the Committee under its constitution. Meeting a criterion does not by itself confer an award: the award is the Committee's decision, taken at a meeting.
Club pages are written by the clubs
Each club's description, photographs, links and training times are supplied and edited by that club's own committee. We host them; we do not write or check them. If something on a club's page is wrong, the club is the place to start, and we are happy to help if that does not resolve it.
Clubs publishing here confirm that they hold the rights to the material they upload — photographs in particular — and that it is theirs to publish. We may edit or remove anything on a club page: material we are asked to remove by someone with a claim to it, or anything unlawful, misleading or offensive. We would normally tell the club first.
If you believe something on this site infringes your rights, tell us and we will look at it promptly.
Links to other sites
Club pages link to clubs' own websites and social accounts. We do not run those and are not responsible for what is on them; a link is not an endorsement.
Using this site
Read it, quote it, link to it, and cite it. You may not attempt to gain unauthorised access to it, disrupt it, or use the contact form to send unsolicited or abusive messages.
Automated access is fine. Our robots.txt is the authoritative statement of what crawlers may do here, and it presently welcomes search engines and AI crawlers alike. Please do not make requests at a rate that would degrade the site for anyone else.
Committee members are sometimes sent a private link to preview a club page before it is published. Those links are for the club concerned; please do not share them.
Our content
The text, design and code of this site belong to the Committee or to the people who licensed them to us, as does the crown device used throughout. Club photographs and club text belong to the clubs.
Availability
We keep this site running as best we can, but we do not promise it will always be available or free of errors, and we may change or withdraw any part of it. It is maintained by volunteers.
Responsibility
We take reasonable care over what we publish, but we do not accept responsibility for loss arising from relying on it — in particular the club-supplied material described above, such as contact details, training times and links. Check anything that matters with the club, or with us directly.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Nothing in them affects your rights as a consumer.
Changes
We may update these terms when the site changes. The date below tells you when they were last reviewed.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.

Use the contact form and it will reach the Blues Committee Executive.
