About the club

Polo is inclusive to all genders and levels of experience, either at university or college level. We welcome enquiries from those with a disability regarding the accessibility of Polo.

Founded in 1874, the Oxford University Polo Club (OUPC) is one of the most historic and distinguished polo clubs in the world. Our rich heritage began with the first match between Brasenose and Christ Church, and since then, OUPC has produced some of the country's most celebrated players and coaches.

At the heart of our calendar is the Varsity Match against Cambridge University Polo Club, the oldest ongoing polo fixture in Europe and one of the most iconic sporting rivalries in the world. The Varsity Match, held each summer at Guards Polo Club in Windsor, is a highlight of the university sporting year.

But polo at Oxford isn't just for the experienced. Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned rider, you are warmly welcomed. Many of our players first learn to ride with us, discovering the excitement of polo for the very first time. Polo is an exhilarating, fast-paced sport - and arguably the most fun you can have on horseback!

We train weekly during term time at Oxford Polo Club, with world-class coaching from Hector Worsley, George Framos and David Ashby, and offer opportunities to play and train year-round. For those who want to take their polo abroad, we also run international trips to incredible polo destinations such as South Africa, Australia, and America.

Whether you're drawn by the thrill of the sport, the prestige of the Varsity Match, or the lifelong friendships forged along the way, OUPC offers a polo experience like no other. Social membership also available.

Inter-college & Cuppers

Polo runs an inter-college tournament, open to both experienced players and beginners. For more information on how to get involved at college level, please contact a member of the club or your college sports rep.
