Mountaineering at Oxford in fact incorporates all forms of climbing and mountaineering: indoor climbing, bouldering, sport climbing, trad climbing, winter climbing and mountaineering. Mountaineering is inclusive to all genders and levels of experience, and we welcome enquiries from those with a disability regarding the accessibility of mountaineering.
The mountaineering club is one of the University's oldest clubs (estd. 1909), with about 300 registered members. Our members enjoy all climbing and mountaineering disciplines, from indoor and outdoor bouldering through sport and trad climbing to alpinism and ice climbing.
Members of the club have a free access to our bouldering wall at Iffley Sports Centre, free access to club gear and guide books, and can join us on five or more heavily subsidised outdoor meets per term. Avid indoor climbers can also join our climbing squad which is a part of Blues Performance Scheme and runs a number of structured bouldering sessions every week. As well as all these benefits, we also hope to offer a network of like minded climbers and mountaineers with which to plan your next expedition, or to help introduce you to the sport! For more inspiration, we produce a yearly edition of Oxford Mountaineering Journal, and support a number of expedition funding sources such as Irvine Fund.
