Orienteering

Discretionary Full Blue

Orienteering is a sport which combines navigation, speed and the outdoors.

About the club

Orienteering is a sport which combines navigation, speed and the outdoors. The aim, simply speaking, is to navigate your way around a series of points marked on a map as quickly as you can, with only the aid of a compass and your own navigational skills. Orienteering happens in a wide range of places, from forests to cities to moorlands, and is a great way to explore new places. Orienteering is inclusive to all genders and levels of experience, and we welcome enquiries from those with a disability regarding the accessibility of orienteering.

During term, we train with casual club runs, mapwork and intervals sessions. At the weekends we either travel to local competitions or run club training sessions in / near Oxford. The orienteering club is small and friendly, and both training sessions and competitions cater for everyone: from complete beginners to those representing Great Britain. There are opportunities to compete against other universities at BUCS and against Cambridge in an annual Varsity. We also often send teams to national and international orienteering competitions, such as the British Orienteering Championships and the European Universities Orienteering Championships.

We are always keen to welcome new members, so do get in touch if you are interested.

Inter-college & Cuppers

Our Cuppers event takes place in early Trinity term and is open to everyone. We usually have one course for experienced orienteers and another for beginners, so it is a great way to introduce friends / newcomers to the sport.
For more information, please contact a member of the club and we'll be happy to help.
