Powerlifting aims to develop knowledge of technique, mobility, nutrition, programming and supplements. Powerlifting is inclusive to all genders and levels of experience, and we welcome enquiries from those with a disability regarding the accessibility of Powerlifting.
The club aims to help individuals interested in competitive or casual powerlifting and helps individuals learn how to correctly squat, bench press, and deadlift. We provide training sessions, coaching opportunities, and the equipment necessary to excel. This includes competition-standard power bars and calibrated weight plates, a 15kg women's weightlifting bar, and a safety squat bar. Alongside dedicated national and international level powerlifters, the club includes sporting men and women from various other disciplines such as boxing, athletics, rugby, and gymnastics; as well as several members who simply enjoy training casually as part of a healthy lifestyle. Lifters of all experience levels are always welcome.
We run taster sessions at the beginning of Michaelmas Term and Hilary Term, so keep a look out on our Instagram and Facebook pages!
The Powerlifting Varsity competition is an annual competition against Cambridge's CUPLC. A Men's and Women's team, each of 10 lifters, is selected from our club members based on competition performances, selecting the highest scorers as assessed by the IPF GL Points system. The match is held at the beginning of February, with the top 8 lifters in each team contributing their IPF GL Points to the overall team score. We also send teams to different IPF-sanctioned competitions throughout the year.
OUPLC is currently a Discretionary Full Blue Sport.
